Marian Wright Edelman

She is founder of the Children's Defense Fund, which specifically advocates for poor children, children of color, and children with disabilities. Her phenomenal work influenced the organization of Dr. King's Poor Peoples Campaign as well as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Edelman was the first African-American woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, and her worked has dramatically influenced national policies to improve foster care, support adoption, and elevate the lives of homeless, abused, and disabled children.
